Samsung Electronics announced today it has began mass production of its 1.6Gbps 512-megabit graphics double data rate 3 (GDDR3) dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip, which will be used in the Xbox 360. The 1.6Gbps 512Mb GDDR3 chip generates 6.4GBps transmission rates and is already available in professional graphic cards with a maximum density of 1GB when combining sixteen monolithic 512Mb GDDR3s together. The Xbox 360 will feature 512 megabytes (eight 512-megabit modules) of GDDR3 memory running at 700 Mhz.
